  • December 12, 2010 - I finished my initial Peace Corps application.
  • February 7, 2011 - I had a phone interview with my recruiter
  • February 11, 2011 - I was nominated to teach English in French-speaking Sub-Saharan Africa. Tentative Departure Date: October 2011
  • February 16, 2011 - My medical and dental packet was mailed to me
  • February - April 2011 - Readied myself for college graduation. Meanwhile my tool-kit became inactive because of the amount of time it took for me to send in my materials
  • May - September 2011 - Made doctor’s visits and dental exams. 
  • September 8, 2011 - Sent off medical packet to headquarters
  • October 3, 2011 - Received word that my packet arrived headquarters safely
  • October 4, 2011 - Sent off dental packet to headquarters
  • October 13, 2011 - Received word that my medical packet was being reviewed.
  • October 17, 2011 - Received a letter from headquarters stating that I need to send updated blood work via fax because of low iron levels within 60 days.
  • October 26, 2011 - Received dental clearance online.
  • November 7, 2011 - Faxed my lab results to headquarters. [They were still .3 points from normal Iron levels]
  • November 7, 2011 - Received e-mail stating that my fax was received.
  • November 8, 2011 - Received medical clearance online.
  • November 10, 2011 - Received e-mail from my Placement Officer Assistant requesting my college transcripts, resume, skill addendum, french background and that I fill out an questionnaire within 2 weeks or they would withdraw my application.
  • November 10, 2011 - Sent all of the requested materials to my Placement Officer Assistant.
  • November 12, 2011 - Received letter in the mail stating that I was medically cleared and telling me to expect correspondence from my Placement Officer.
  • November 15, 2011 - Received my first e-mail from my official Placement Officer in which he told me that my file was under a final review. He asked me a series of questions which I sent back that same day. He attached a English Educator details as well as the Core Expectations of Peace Corps volunteers to the e-mail.
  • November 17, 2011 - Sent P.O. a follow-up e-mail because I hadn’t heard from him since the initial e-mail. He urged me to take a TEFL course.
  • November 21, 2011 - I e-mailed my P.O. letting him know what course I’d be taking and when I would be done.
  • November 22, 2011 - A couple hours after paying for the online TEFL course, I received an e-mail from my P.O. stating that he was glad to hear that I was taking the class and set up a time to speak with me on November 30th.
  • November 30, 2011 - Had a 49 minute interview with my P.O. in which we discussed everything from my hair, skin color, safety and motivations for joining. Resulted in him suggesting that I tutor and qualifying me for service.
  • December 1, 2011 - Received the Placement check mark in my online tool-kit.
  • December 3, 2011 - E-mailed my P.O. to let him know I found students to tutor.
  • December 5, 2011 - P.O. e-mailed be back asking for clarification as to whether the students I would be tutoring were learning English as a second language. I told them the children were bilingual. He seemed pleased that I was tutoring and told me he would contact me as soon as he had more information to share with me.
  • December 5, 2011 - P.O. e-mailed me to let me know he was sending an invitation to Sub-Saharan Africa to be an English teacher.
  • December 7, 2011 - Online tool-kit is updated. Says that my invitation is in the mail
  • December 9, 2011 - Invitation arrives. Departing for Africa, May 21, 2012
